Three 05ers make their World Cup debuts
A recap of how our players got on during the first round of matches in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Matchday 1 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will come to a close on Wednesday and Thursday as Groups K and L play their first matches of the tournament. Six FSV players have played their first minutes at this summer’s tournament already, with Stefan Posch, Phillipp Mwene and Kaishu Sano all making their World Cup debuts.
- Jae-sung Lee and South Korea came from behind to celebrate a 2-1 win against Czechia. Lee featured for 62 minutes before being taken off.
Next match: Freitag, 19th June (03:00 CEST): Mexico - South Korea - Silvan Widmer and Switzerland conceded a late equaliser in their opening match against Qatar (1-1). The FSV captain was an unused substitute.
Next match: Thursday, 18th June (21:00 CEST): Switzerland - Bosnia and Herzegovina - Nadiem Amiri was also an unused substitute in Germany’s 7-1 hammering of Curaçao.
Next match: Saturday, 20th June (22:00 CEST): Germany - Ivory Coast - Kaishu Sano was in the starting line-up as he made his World Cup debut for Japan in a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands.
Next match: Sunday, 21st June (06:00 CEST): Tunesia - Japan - Stefan Posch and Phillipp Mwene both started Austria’s 3-1 victory against Jordan, as both made their tournament debuts. Posch played the full 90 minutes at centre-back, while Mwene was taken off after 59 minutes.
Next match: Monday, 22nd June (19:00 CEST): Argentina - Austria
