Mainz 05 and Silas Katompa Mvumpa have agreed a new contract. The club opted not to activate a clause that had been agreed before his injury, allowing both parties to find a better solution. The forward suffered a fractured tibia and fibula in Mainz’s UEFA Conference League last-16 first leg against Sigma Olomouc at the start of March.
FSV sporting director Niko Bungert said: “It was clear to us on the night in Olomouc that we weren’t going to leave Silas in the lurch – that is how we do things at Mainz 05. He had done really well up until his injury and was simply very unlucky. That makes it all the better that we have now been able to finalise his stay. I’m sure Silas will continue to add quality to our attack once he is fit again.”
Silas said: “I’m very grateful to Mainz 05 for making it clear straight away that they would give me their full support. For me, it’s now all about continuing to do everything I can to get back on the pitch as quickly as possible. I’m determined to show that the trust placed in me is justified.”
