“It’s nice that the games keep on coming in quick succession”

Reactions to the game against Köln

FSV 0 - 1 Köln

Christian Heidel: “In the end we had enough chances to get a point, however our luck failed us. We need to accept that. There’s no need to blow things out of proportion – we’re into the next round of the cup and have every chance in the Conference League, while today’s game was just a bit odd. Köln made us run a lot and then after the break they pressed us a lot more. The man advantage played into Köln’s hands, but we still had our chances. One positive is that Nelly Weiper will be extending his contract beyond 2026 as a result of our recent conversations. We made our position clear and looked to resolve everything together. It’s never been about money, but rather the right time to make the decision.”

Danny da Costa: “It feels rubbish. The goal against us at the end was just perfect timing for them. We could have been more coordinated at the back, as our only option there would have been to foul him. The goal was entirely preventable though. Köln had few chances; we came quite close a couple of times towards the end. It was definitely possible to get at least one point out of this game. We can only blame ourselves for not defending decisively enough. Anything is possible in any competition though, even if today was a disappointing start to the Bundesliga. We go again on Thursday and it’s nice that the games keep on coming in quick succession.”

“We definitely want to play in Europe”

Phillipp Mwene: “It’s frustrating and disappointing to lose this game. We didn’t make things easier for ourselves with the red card, however Köln were no more dangerous afterwards. In the end it was just a hopeful ball that found its way in behind us. We can’t sit here after the game and point fingers though. Two losses in a row are certainly not what we are after. Our attacking play isn’t going so well at the moment; we’re missing our composure. We need to be more effective in the final third. Now we look ahead to Thursday, where we want to put on a show and get this place rocking. What happened today will no longer be relevant then.”
