What lies ahead for FSV in Europe in 2026
The Mainz fans can already look forward to at least one more European night at the MEWA ARENA next year.
Thanks to a deserved 2-0 win over Samsunspor on Thursday evening, FSV have secured their place in the last 16 of the UEFA Conference League. The round of 16 will be played over two legs on 12th and 19th March 2026, with Mainz guaranteed home advantage for the second leg.
That is what is confirmed for now. Further details will be decided from 16th January, when the play-off ties are drawn between the teams that finished ninth to 24th in the league phase. While those match-ups are still to be settled, four potential opponents are already known: Crystal Palace (England), FC Lausanne-Sport (Switzerland), Sigma Olomouc (Czech Republic) and HŠK Zrinjski Mostar – a side Mainz already faced during the league phase. Final clarity on FSV’s next opponent will come on 27th February, once the draw is made following the play-offs.
Should FSV progress beyond the last 16, their European journey would continue with the quarter-finals on 9th and 16th April, with Mainz hosting the first leg. The semi-finals are scheduled for 30th April and 7th May. The 2026 Conference League final will take place on 27th May in Leipzig.
