1. FSV Mainz 05 and JAKO have agreed to extend their partnership by three additional years, until 2031. The Baden-Württemberg-based supplier have been responsible for kitting out all of the teams at the club since 2023, and have also agreed to deepen the agreement between the two parties.

The decision is a logical conclusion, given the shared values between the two. JAKO, founded in 1989, are a family-run business that supply over 250,000 teams in more than 50 countries worldwide. As a company, they value sustainability and support various initiatives aimed at improving social and environmental standards in textile production. An in-house solar array means that JAKO are able to cover the majority of their energy needs themselves in an environmentally-friendly manner. They are also part of ‘The Key’ project, under which nine project partners from the worlds of research and industry, including FSV sponsor MEWA, are working together to create a recycling solution for textiles.

Mainz 05, the first climate neutral club in the Bundesliga, have been able to provide fans with high-quality, comfortable and breathable shirts made from 100% recycled polyester ever since they first partnered with JAKO nearly two and a half years ago.

The close partnership between the two functions without a hitch, as seen in the design of the shirts produced so far. From the club’s annual Carnival kits, to weaving a map of the city into the fabric of the shirts themselves, there have been no limits to the creativity with which the symbols and colours of the club and the city have been incorporated by JAKO. In the future, shirt designs will continue to combine traditional elements of both the club’s and city’s identity with high-quality, sustainably produced materials.

Jochen Röttgermann, head of marketing & sales at 1. FSV Mainz 05: “We have been able to build a strong and reliable partnership with JAKO over the years. From the outset, we have enjoyed many areas of common ground on important issues, whether it be in the areas of environmentally friendly production, regionality or creativity. It’s fantastic to have been able to reach an agreement to extend our partnership this early. We’re looking forward to conceptualising more exciting projects together with JAKO over the next six years.”

“As a medium-sized family-run business from the southwest of Germany, JAKO aren't just close to us in terms of their geographical location, but also in terms of their company values. We quickly felt a deep connection while working together, and this partnership is a great fit in all areas. We have been able to set new standards in the areas of sustainability together and get our fans and members on board with the concept. It’s great to see that we have been able to come to a long-term agreement on the extension of this successful partnership,” said David Schössler, head of B2B at Mainz 05.

Tobias Röschl, head of marketing & sales at JAKO: "Mainz 05 are a partner who fit perfectly to what we imagine under team sport: passionate, down-to-earth and with a clear identity. Since 2023, we have been able to feel just how much trust, receptiveness and creativity is packed into every area of this partnership. Together, we have been able to create kits that have combined tradition and emotion with modern designs, that have been well-received by both fans and the players. We are delighted to be continuing our partnership and look forward to deepening it in the long term.”
