Niko Bungert: “We are certainly not euphoric today after a 0-0 draw. We knew we would be facing an opponent who would be difficult to break down. They are well drilled, and after the break we did better and better and managed to pin them back in their half more often. It was a challenging opener, but from my point of view we were the better team and closer to winning. You certainly cannot deny us the desire and drive to score goals today. In pre-season, we were very efficient; today we found things more difficult.”

Phillip Tietz: “Newly promoted sides can play football too, and a point is better than losing. We had a lot of chances, but we weren’t able to take them. If we go in front, the game can play out very differently, but we weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. That has to be better next week, when we want to take three points. We had more of the game today, but in the end we were always three or four metres short. The ball just didn’t want to cross the line. There are a few things we have to and can do better.”

Fabio Gruber: “Before the game, it felt amazing; afterwards, I would obviously rather have taken three points. When you realise that you are playing in the Bundesliga for the first time, it really is a dream. I enjoyed every moment of it, because not everyone gets to experience that. In the first half, we didn’t manage to impose our game. We were too far apart and kept having to react. Paderborn also played it well, but we weren’t aggressive enough. After the break, we had spells, but we didn’t manage often enough to build up real momentum.”
