Mainz 05 sign Sheraldo Becker on loan

The 30-year-old forward brings plenty of experience to the Bruchweg

1. FSV Mainz 05 have reacted at short notice to the serious injury suffered by Benedict Hollerbach by securing the services of Sheraldo Becker on loan. The 30-year-old forward is currently under contract with Club Atlético Osasuna in Spain’s LaLiga and brings with him experience of more than 100 Bundesliga appearances – with 24 goals and 26 assists under Urs Fischer – to Mainz.

Becker has also made 120 appearances in the Eredivisie for PEC Zwolle and ADO Den Haag, as well as 45 LaLiga appearances for CA Osasuna and Real Sociedad.

“No lengthy settling-in period” and added quality for the squad

Mainz sporting director Niko Bungert said: “Sheraldo knows the league and the coach very well. We’re pleased that, in such a short space of time, we’ve been able to find someone that won’t require a lengthy settling-in period and gives us added quality in the squad.”

Sheraldo Becker said: “I’m delighted it all came together so quickly and I’m looking forward to returning to the Bundesliga. I made almost all of my Bundesliga appearances under Urs Fischer and I’m happy to be working with him again now. The focus now is on picking up as many points as possible in the relegation battle.”
