Hyun-seok Hong will join Danish top-flight side and UEFA Conference League participants FC Midtjylland for the coming season. The attacking midfielder, who moved to Bruchweg for the 2024/25 season, had already been loaned out to FC Nantes in France and KAA Gent in Belgium over the past two campaigns. As the transfer window in Denmark does not close until 2 September, the loan deal could still be finalised after the Bundesliga transfer window had closed.
Mainz 05 sporting director Niko Bungert said: “Hyun-seok was extremely committed during pre-season with us and showed that he was in excellent physical condition, but due to the very high level of competition, we were unable to offer him the prospect of playing time. That is why we agreed to the loan move to FC Midtjylland. We hope that, with his club competing in the league, the cup and the Conference League, he gets the games he is looking for there and can play himself back into the spotlight.”
