Hanche-Olsen moves to Chicago Fire FC
The 29-year-old centre-back will play in Major League Soccer going forward

Andreas Hanche-Olsen is leaving 1. FSV Mainz 05. The 29-year-old centre-back, who had worn the Mainz 05 shirt since the winter of the 2022/23 season, is joining Chicago Fire FC in Major League Soccer with immediate effect. Hanche-Olsen originally moved to the Rhine from Belgian top-flight side KAA Gent and made a total of 77 competitive appearances for 1. FSV Mainz 05 over the past three and a half years. During his time in Mainz, Hanche-Olsen also established himself as a regular for the Norwegian national team, for whom he has now made 22 appearances.
Mainz 05 sporting director Niko Bungert said: “Andreas is a model professional and was always very popular within the team and across the entire club. We are very grateful for his commitment over the past three and a half years, during which we always knew we could rely on him. Andreas has now been given the opportunity to take a very exciting step to Chicago Fire FC in MLS and continue his career there on a long-term contract. After good discussions together, we agreed to the move and wish Andreas all the very best for his sporting and personal future in the USA.”
