Hanche-Olsen signs contract extension until 2028
Norwegian centre-back commits to FSV – “A special day for me”

Andreas Hanche-Olsen has pledged his long-term future to Mainz 05, extending his contract until 2028. The 28-year-old centre-back has signed a new deal, extending his original contract – which was due to expire next summer – by a further two years. Hanche-Olsen joined Mainz from Belgian side KAA Gent in January 2023 and quickly established himself as a key figure in the team and a fan favourite thanks to his committed, no-nonsense defending. The Norway international with 21 caps has made 56 competitive appearances for the 05ers to date, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

"very important and positive personality in the dressing room"
“Andreas is a true mentality player – strong in the tackle and full of experience. He’s shown his defensive quality in the Bundesliga over the past few seasons in an impressive way,” said sporting director Niko Bungert. “He fully identifies with Mainz 05, with our style of play and with everything this club stands for. On top of that, he’s also a very important and positive personality in the dressing room.”
Hanche-Olsen himself was also delighted: “This is a special day for me because I’ve been hoping for this contract extension for a long time. Mainz 05 feels like home to me – the people at the club, the fans, the way we treat each other, and the atmosphere in the city are all things I really appreciate. Mainz has become my second home and I’m happy I get to wear the FSV shirt for a few more years.”
