Edimilson Fernandes departs to join Young Boys
The midfielder signs a long-term deal running until 2029 with the Swiss side
Edimilson Fernandes leaves 1. FSV Mainz 05 to make the move to Switzerland, joining BSC Young Boys in the nation’s capital of Bern. Fernandes has signed a long-term contract which will keep him at the Swiss club until 2029.
The city is far from unfamiliar to the 29-year-old, who already had a loan spell with YB between February and June of 2022, making 14 competitive appearances during this period (two goals, three assists). Since Fernandes arrived at Bruchweg in 2019, he featured 97 times for Mainz 05 (one goal, six assists). The two clubs have agreed that details of the transfer shall remain undisclosed.
Following his successful loan spell in Brest last season, Edimilson approached us with the desire to join BSC Young Boys permanently. We obviously did not stand in his way and thank him wholeheartedly for his efforts during his time with Mainz 05, wishing him all the best in his new sporting home and for his next chapter in Switzerland,” said the 05ers’ board member for sport Christian Heidel.
