Danny da Costa is staying at Mainz
Defender has featured in 44 of FSV’s 47 competitive games this season

Danny da Costa will remain at Mainz 05 next season. The 32-year-old defender has been permanently on the books at FSV since the 2022/23 campaign and can operate both in a back three and out wide. With the season set to conclude on Saturday, da Costa has featured in 44 of Mainz’s 47 competitive games so far, having a hand in six goals. FSV securing Bundesliga survival with their away win at FC St. Pauli has triggered an automatic extension in his contract.
Mainz 05 sporting director Niko Bungert said: “Danny is reliability personified. To perform at a high level over an entire season and be out on the pitch in almost every game is an impressive achievement. We’re pleased that we can continue to count on Danny’s calmness, stability and experience at Mainz 05.”
Danny da Costa added: “I’m looking forward to next season with the lads. I think we’ve been through the full range of emotions over the course of this campaign. We’ve suffered a lot, but we’ve also seen what is possible with Mainz 05. I’ll keep giving everything to help the team achieve as much success as possible.”
