Widmer extends contract at FSV

Widmer scored three goals in the 2025/26 season, having found the back of the net a total of 10 times in 151 competitive games for the club.

FSV captain Silvan Widmer has extended his contract at the club. The 33-year-old joined the 05ers in 2021/22 and has captained the side for the last four seasons. The right-back has featured in 39 competitive games this term, scoring three goals and providing an assist.

Sporting director Niko Bungert: "Silvan has become a key figure for us over the last years in his role as a leader and as our captain. Even in the midst of the intense pressure we found ourselves under over the last six months, he always led by example and played a part in our success in the second half of the season. We’re delighted to continue working with him.”

“My family and I feel very at home here in Mainz,” said Widmer. “It’s fantastic to know that we will be able to stay in our adopted home for a while longer. I’ve experienced many great moments during the last five years here and I’m looking forward to continue helping both the club and this team in particular be as successful as possible in the future.”
