"We're Pleased with the Way We Played"
Reaction to Mainz's Defeat Against Bayern Munich

Mainz 05 1-2 Bayern Munich (HT: 0-1)
Niko Bungert: "We're pleased with the performance. We worked incredibly hard against the best team in Germany and managed to keep the game competitive throughout. We played about as well as you can against Bayern. We're happy with the way we approached the game, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to get anything out of it. Our defensive performance was good. I saw a real collective determination to defend and a willingness to dig deep and put in the hard work. If we can keep showing that in our remaining games, we'll have a good chance of picking up points again. The way the VAR review unfolded was particularly frustrating because it took away the excitement of what we thought was the equaliser. We had another decision decided by the finest of margins last week. Nevertheless, the lads kept going and tried everything. I would have loved to see how the game would have unfolded if that goal had stood. Overall, though, I think today's performance was a step forward for us."
Potulski: "We Can Build on This Performance"
Fabio Gruber: "I felt good out there, but the result is sh*t. It took us about 15 minutes to get into the game and perhaps shake off some of the respect we had for Bayern. After that, we were actually right in it. We haven't forgotten how to play football, and today we got back to what we're good at. This time, we didn't just talk about doing that, we actually went out and did it. We made life difficult for Bayern, and we want to build on that after the international break."
Paul Nebel: "I think it was a step forward. You could see that we gave everything and really battled out there. Of course, not everything was perfect, but Bayern are one of the best teams in Europe. Now we need to build on the response we showed today. Everyone was there for each other. I felt throughout the game that we were still in with a chance. That wasn't always the case in our recent matches, when we tended to fall apart. It was really important to show a different side of ourselves today."
Fischer: "That's the Side of My Team I Wanted to See"
