Mainz 05 sign Silas from VfB Stuttgart

Congolese attacker joins the 05ers

Silas Katompa Mvumpa has put pen to paper with 1. FSV Mainz 05 with immediate effect. The 27-year-old joins the club from fellow Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart and signed his contract on Tuesday. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose the details of the transfer.

The Congolese attacker moved to Stuttgart in 2019 from then second-tier side Paris FC. He made 132 competitive appearances for VfB, scoring 35 goals and providing 21 assists. Last season, Silas was loaned out to Serbian Champions League participants Crvena zvezda, where he found the net seven times in 24 competitive matches. He has earned 20 caps for the DR Congo national team to date.

Sporting director Niko Bungert commented: “We’re delighted that we’ve been able to bring Silas to Mainz 05. He’s known for his pace, his ability to take players on and his goal threat – qualities he has already demonstrated impressively at VfB Stuttgart. Silas will strengthen our squad and add new dimensions to our attacking play.”

Silas said: “I’m really looking forward to showing what I can do for Mainz 05. The talks with the club were very positive and full of mutual respect. I’m desperate to be back out on the pitch in the Bundesliga and can’t wait for things to finally get going.”
