"It cost us what we deserved to get out of the game"

Reaction to the 05ers loss in Frankfurt

Frankfurt 1 - 0 FSV

Niko Bungert: “It’s a tough one to take. It certainly wasn’t a footballing spectacle today, but for long stretches we defended well. On the other hand, we didn’t manage to create many big chances. There were moments that looked promising for us, but in the end, it usually came down to the final pass or the final decision not being good enough. Towards the end, it looked like the game was heading for a 0–0 draw, but we switched off just once and are now going home empty handed. Getting a point here in the local derby against Frankfurt would definitely have given us a boost and been a small step forward — so right now it feels very disappointing. We have our sights set higher in the Bundesliga.”

Lennard Maloney: “I think we put in a focused performance. We didn’t allow many big chances, but in the end, the goal we conceded cost us what we deserved to get out of the game. Of course, we know the situation we’re in at the moment and right now our main focus has to be on getting back on track. To do that, we have to keep working hard every day and keep pushing — sooner or later it’ll pay off.”

Paul Nebel: “I think we played well for a long time, especially defensively. We fought hard and made it difficult for Frankfurt to play against us. Going forward, we put a few crosses into the box, but they didn’t find a target. Looking at the goal we conceded, we obviously can’t allow Doan to get through like that in that situation. So it’s really tough for us to leave empty-handed, because we honestly deserved to take something home with us today.”
