"Felt like a home game"

Post-match reaction to the defeat in Trondheim – Mainz still left with a chance to progress next week after a "disappointing" defeat in Norway

Nadiem Amiri's joy after his stunning goal soon subsided after the final whistle

Rosenborg 2 - 1 FSV

Niko Bungert: "It's a deserved, but also unnecessary, defeat which makes things slightly more difficult for us in the second leg. We knew that we would be up against a team that are used to playing together and who are right in the middle of their season. It quickly became apparent how difficult it would be. There were moments where we were better after the break and we would have been happy to take a 1-1 draw into the second leg with us. However, we still have full confidence that we will be able to improve on this performance next Thursday. We're looking forward to the upcoming challenge, as we need – and want – to win at home now."

Nadiem Amiri: "It was an intense game at both ends of the pitch. Rosenborg kept waiting for moments to catch us on the counter-attack. We need to prepare ourselves even better for next Thursday. Today was a 50/50 game that could have gone either way. We're looking forward to the second leg, but know we will need a far better performance against an opponent who will once again defend deep against us. I'm not that happy about my goal today, because I would rather play successful football as a team."

Robin Zentner: "It was the first European game of my career. I was trying to soak it all in, especially the moments before the match. The atmosphere, the fans – they were incredible and so fired up for the game. It was a hard-fought match but we left ourselves too exposed at the end. We still have a chance heading into next week and know what we can expect at home. The support that we'll have behind us shouldn't be underestimated – today almost felt like a home game. A massive thank you to everyone who was there!"
