Henriksen: "Improved in several areas"

FSV travel to Wolfsburg on Sunday afternoon

After successfully qualifying for the league phase of the UEFA Conference League on Thursday evening, 1. FSV Mainz 05 are now looking to carry this momentum into Sunday's meeting with VfL Wolfsburg (15:30 CEST).

The Wolves opened the season with a 3-1 win in Heidenheim, while the 05ers fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at home against 1. FC Köln. Bo Henriksen's side now go in search of their first points of the campaign. "Everything is always more difficult after a defeat," said the head coach. "I've spoken to every player and they are all fit to feature."

Henriksen on..

...the importance of the win against Rosenborg: "It's important that we take this feeling with us, because we were exceptional for 80 minutes of the tie. It was an important learning opportunity for us of what's possible when we play to our limit. It was a fantastic moment, together with the fans. But, our priority is the Bundesliga, which I reminded the team of today. We have an opportunity coming in Wolfsburg and have previously also managed some good results there."

...the best game of the season so far: "Yesterday, we felt like we were back playing the way we want to. That level of intensity is what we expect to see from ourselves. We were able to improve in several areas and have been able to get better at creating chances when our opponents are defending deep."

...Wolfsburg: "They defend and play a bit differently now. What's important is what we bring to the table – we need power and intensity. At the same time, we also want to play good football. If we do that then we'll have a chance, but it will obviously be a tough challenge."

...Mainz's Conference League opponents: "The key thing is that we see the opportunity for good matches. We have some exciting challenges ahead, as well as some big games at the MEWA ARENA, such as against Fiorentina or Samsunspor. Those are both strong opponents, and we're looking forward to it. Today, however, we're only thinking of facing Wolfsburg on Sunday."

...Nelson Weiper: "He's only 20 years old and shows his emotions, but first and foremost, he wants what's best for the club. He's been dealing with a lot lately, and yesterday he offered the best possible response by playing with power and energy like a real man."

...Paul Nebel being called up to play for Germany: "He's fantastic. Last year, I said to him that he has to keep a clear head and not think too much. He had to learn that it's okay to make mistakes and to not always be the best. The growth he's undergone as a player is fantastic, but he's also a great person. Everyone in the squad loves him. I see how hard he works every day and he just keeps getting better and better. I'm proud of him, but at the end of the day, he's the one responsible for the development he's undergone. The fact that he won't be able to play on Sunday  [due to suspension]is obviously tough for us."
