Paul Nebel has extended his contract with Mainz 05. The 24-year-old midfielder joined the club's academy at the Bruchweg at the age of 13 and progressed through every youth level before breaking into the first team. He has now worn the Mainz shirt for over a decade, apart from a two-year loan spell at Karlsruher SC. Nebel has already made 78 Bundesliga appearances, ten in the UEFA Conference League and seven in the DFB-Pokal for the 05ER, registering a total of 15 goals and 18 assists across those competitions.
Mainz 05 sporting director Niko Bungert said: "Paul is a perfect example of how a player can progress through our own youth academy and become a key member of our Bundesliga squad through hard work, patience and a down-to-earth attitude. He's an important and reliable part of our team and has shown over the years that we can always count on him when we need him. We're delighted to have found a great solution together that allows us to continue our journey into the future."
Paul Nebel said: "Mainz 05 is my footballing home. I've grown up at this club, spent some of the most important years of my development in the academy and worked my way up to becoming a Bundesliga player. I'm really happy to have the trust of the people in charge and that we can continue this journey together. I'm highly motivated to repay that trust with my performances and give everything for the club and our fans. We still have plenty we want to achieve together as a team this season!"
