“Of course it’s frustrating”
Post-match reaction after the defeat against Frankfurt

Mainz 05 - Eintracht Frankfurt 1:3 (0:2)
Niko Bungert: “You don’t like losing Bundesliga games, and against Eintracht Frankfurt even a little less. Today, we didn’t do many of the things well that had been good in the first two games. Before today, we had been highly focused defensively in particular and had allowed very little. We saw how quickly you are punished when you don’t show 100 percent alertness and consistency. That is why we also invited Frankfurt a little bit to score their goals. On top of that, we simply weren’t as efficient, so all in all it was a deserved win. Days like today happen, but of course we had set out to achieve something different.”
Robin Zentner: “Of course it’s frustrating to see Frankfurt celebrating here. We didn’t play well and deserved to lose. They were aggressive, especially before half-time, and better in the challenges. As a whole team, we were a little bit sleepy. We all wanted to build on last week here and get our first home win. Small details decide a game like this in the end, and setbacks are part of it.”
Phillip Tietz: “Frankfurt maybe wanted it a little bit more. We gave the ball away too often, they won more of the 50-50 duels and were sharper on second balls. That leads to a game where it feels better on one side. For us, here and there, we started thinking too much. So it was an afternoon to forget, and we deservedly leave the pitch as the losing side.”
