Two 05ers book their tickets to the World Cup
Mainz’s internationals can look back on a successful international break in November

The final international break of the year featured plenty of positives for all of our 05ers.
Silvan Widmer and Switzerland successfully booked their ticket to the 2026 World Cup after a 1-1 draw against Kosovo, in which our captain featured for 75 minutes. Phillipp Mwene and Austria also had reason to celebrate, after a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina saw them qualify for the tournament for the first time since 1998. Mwene started before being taken off in the 68th minute.
Elsewhere, Nelson Weiper and the Germany U21s picked up three more points in U21 EURO qualifying with a 2-0 victory against Georgia. Our striker was subbed on in the 75th minute, as Germany remain in second place in Group F, three points behind Greece U21s.
Kaishu Sano was an unused substitute as Japan beat Bolivia 3-0, as was Jae-sung Lee in South Korea’s 1-0 victory over Ghana. Kacper Potulski was also victorious with Poland U21s, as they beat North Macedonia U21s 1-0 in their EURO qualifier, but did not feature.
