Last week, representatives of the city of Mainz and 1. FSV Mainz 05 signed a new lease agreement for the MEWA ARENA, which was approved by the Mainz City Council at the end of November. This agreement now legally and bindingly regulates the economic conditions for the planned transfer of ownership of the stadium to the club.
The contractual solution provides a significantly reduced lease payment, taking into account the services provided by Mainz 05 to date, and includes a notarised purchase option for the club in 2036.
Günter Beck, head of sports and finance, and Franz Ringhoffer, managing director of the Stadt Mainz GVG, signed the agreement on behalf of the city. GVG was the developer of the arena, which opened in 2011.
