Weiper signs new long-term deal at Mainz 05
Nelly: “For me, Mainz 05 is the right step for the future as well”

Nelson Weiper has extended his contract with Mainz 05 ahead of schedule, signing a long-term deal that will keep him at the club until 2029. The striker has been with FSV since 2012, developing through the academy from the U8s upwards before signing his first professional contract in spring 2022. He made his Bundesliga debut at the age of 17 in October 2022 against SC Freiburg and scored his first top-flight goal just a few months later in a 4-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach. That same year, he was awarded the Fritz Walter Gold Medal as Germany’s best U17 player.
Since then, Weiper has made 41 competitive appearances for Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal, scoring five goals and providing two assists. The 20-year-old has represented Germany at every youth level from U16 upwards, and this summer featured at the U21 European Championship alongside teammate Paul Nebel and former 05er Brajan Gruda, with whom he won the German U19 Championship in 2023.

Heidel: “Nelson identifies with the club, the city and his home”
Board member for sport Christian Heidel commented: “Nelson is not only an outstanding talent with undeniable sporting qualities, but above all, he is a true Mainzer. He was born here and gives everything with his whole heart. Nelson identifies with the club, the city and his home. We’re very happy that he has committed himself to Mainz 05 for another four years – the place where he first started playing football 13 years ago.”
Nelson Weiper himself said: “For me, Mainz 05 is the right step for the future as well. I feel very much at home here – both on and off the pitch, everything just fits. The management and the coach put their trust in me, and I want to repay that trust on the pitch. I was born in Mainz, I love this city and this club, and I’m delighted to keep playing here in front of my family, my friends and our fantastic fans at the MEWA ARENA.”
