“A tough night for us”
The 05ers react to Thursday night’s defeat in Craiova

Niko Bungert: We obviously came here expecting a different outcome. As the favourites, we travelled with the clear aim of taking something from this game. In truth, we never really got going. It was a fairly even match in which neither side stood out. An unfortunate moment then led to us falling behind from the penalty spot in the second half, and after that Craiova defended their goal with everything they had. Right before the final whistle, we thought we’d finally found a moment to celebrate, but having the goal ruled out summed up the kind of night we had out here.
Silvan Widmer: It was a very disappointing evening because we’re heading home with no points. Our fans are understandably unhappy – we are too – and they have every right to let us know. Even so, it’s important that we show unity in moments like this. We’ve been through these phases before and managed to work our way out of them. We’ll do the same this time and look to lay the foundations for that on Sunday against Freiburg.
Lennard Maloney: Right now it’s just a very empty feeling and I’m still a bit lost for words. Of course we’re disappointed – this is not how we imagined things going today – but we’re professional enough to know exactly where we stand and to assess the situation properly. Things simply aren’t clicking at the moment, so it’s up to us to come together with energy and determination and work our way back out of this.
