“This won’t knock us off course”
05ers’ reactions to the defeat at home to Freiburg

Mainz 05 0-1 SC Freiburg
Niko Bungert: “The game went as expected, with both teams finding it difficult to create chances. Freiburg were dangerous from set pieces as usual. That didn’t surprise us, but it’s still hard to defend. That’s how they ended up scoring what was kind of a bizarre goal. They are a fantastic side and that’s why we leave empty-handed. We looked dangerous at times, but they defended well – as did we for long stretches. This won’t knock us off course, as there are lots of positives to take from today. We have another challenge to look forward to on Thursday. We’re delighted to have Titi and Nadiem back, which obviously helps us.”
Phillip Tietz: “It was a game driven by tactics that was decided by a set piece. We imagined it differently – we wanted to win and are very disappointed. The busy week can’t be an excuse – we’re in top condition and conceded a silly goal. Everyone knows this is about avoiding relegation and we want to pick up as many points as possible, as soon as possible. It’s great to have Nadiem and Titi back. We have a few others who are close to returning.”
Stefan Posch: “It was an even first half, then we go and concede a silly goal right after the break from a throw-in. We stayed in the game well – it just wasn’t our day. It’s very frustrating, but we just have to live with it. The situation we’re in is good, but we haven’t achieved anything yet. It helps us to have more options again, as we all know what the returning players bring to the table.”
