“Two points dropped”

Post-match reaction from FSV following the 1-1 draw at home to Hamburger SV

Mainz 05 1-1 Hamburger sv

Niko Bungert: “I think we probably deserved the three points more than HSV tonight. It was an intense evening. We pushed hard towards the end but didn’t quite manage to create anything clear-cut. We just lacked that final bit of precision and HSV kept getting a foot in. We were committed and didn’t allow much against a side that’s very dangerous on the counter. All in all, we can walk off with our heads held high after a good performance. It was a demanding game overall, with plenty of cards and a lot of discussions on the touchline as well.”

Phillipp Mwene: “Of course we’re disappointed after such an intense game. With the two or three chances we had at the end, we should have rewarded ourselves. Before the break we were a bit cautious, but we grew into the game. Overall, though, we didn’t make enough of it. On a personal note, it was important for me to get minutes again. I’m ready whenever I’m needed.”

Nadiem Amiri: “It’s a case of two points dropped today. We actually played a decent game and spent a lot of time in the final third. Then HSV score from a poorly taken free-kick. We were just missing that little something, we have to be calmer and more clinical in front of goal. In the end, every point matters, so we have to keep collecting them.”
