Lasse Rieß signs new contract and joins Düsseldorf on loan

Lasse Rieß has extended his contract at Bruchweg and will join Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan for one year. The 24-year-old goalkeeper, a true Mainz academy product who progressed through all of the club’s youth teams at the academy, has been part of Mainz’s first-team squad since the 2021/22 season. Rieß will train with his new team in the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia later today.

Mainz 05 sporting director Niko Bungert said: “We remain convinced of Lasse and his qualities, which is why we have extended his contract accordingly. However, as a player, you make the biggest steps in your development when you are regularly out on the pitch. The loan to Düsseldorf for the coming season gives Lasse the chance to get significantly more playing time there. We wish him all the best and every success, and look forward to his return next summer!”
