Sota Kawasaki joins FSV on a permanent contract

Sota Kawasaki will remain at Mainz 05 on a permanent contract, after having joined the club on loan from Kyoto Sanga ahead of the 2025/26 season. The 05ers have activated the option-to-buy clause agreed upon in the loan deal and have signed the 24-year-old on a permanent contract. Kawasaki has featured in 14 competitive games this season for Mainz, scoring once in the league phase of the UEFA Conference League against Lech Poznań. 

“Sota Kawasaki feels at home in Mainz and sees his future here with us,” said Christian Heidel, FSV’s board member for sport. “From our perspective, Sota has undergone a strong development in his first season with us. We’re fully convinced of his qualities and believe that, as a young player, he will continue to progress.”
