Amiri scores maiden Germany goal in win over Northern Ireland
Amiri's maiden strike puts Germany on the path to victory / Widmer also on the scoresheet for Switzerland / FSV players in action with their national teams on Tuesday and Wednesday

Germany's men's national team were able to get back to winning ways in their second World Cup qualifier against Northern Ireland, courtesy of Mainz's Nadiem Amiri. The midfielder scored to make it 2-1, netting his debut goal for the side in the process. Afterwards, he ran to celebrate with FSV teammate Paul Nebel. "Nadiem came on and was ready to play. He really left it all out there on the pitch. That's why I'm extremely pleased for him, because he put in such a passionate performance, which is what we needed at that moment in the match," said Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann.
Amiri featured for 30 minutes in both the 3-1 win in Cologne and the 2-0 defeat against Slovakia, with Nebel an unused substitute in both matches. The duo will return to Mainz this week, with eight of their FSV teammates still away on international duty.
