FSV produce commanding performance and record win in Krieschow

Mainz 05 overcome early difficulties to celebrate a convincing first-round DFB-Pokal win

Philipp Tietz stood out with four goals in Krieschow as part of a strong team performance.

Job done and a record DFB-Pokal win wrapped up: 1. FSV Mainz 05 safely cleared the hurdle against Oberliga side VfB Krieschow in Brandenburg thanks to a professional performance. After some minor early difficulties, the Bundesliga side found their rhythm by the 20-minute mark at the latest and had already put the game beyond doubt in the first half. The 9-0 win (5-0) also marks a new club record: FSV’s previous biggest cup victory had come in the summer of 1972, with a 7-0 win over Hassia Bingen.

Mainz’s goals came from Philipp Tietz (4), Nadiem Amiri (2), Sheraldo Becker, Ransford Königsdörffer and William Böving. The Oberliga side came close to scoring early on and once again in the closing stages, but overall provided a fitting stage for their debut in the competition. The football festival in Krieschow is certainly likely to continue long after the final whistle.

Family matchday against Paderborn

While the next cup round will be drawn on 5 September, FSV will open their Bundesliga campaign at home to newly promoted Paderborn next Saturday. No tickets are currently available in the home sections for this year’s family matchday, except possibly via the secondary market.
