Final pre-season test and season opening event this weekend

Mainz 05’s first competitive match, in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Sunday, 23 August (15:30, tickets available in the online shop), is fast approaching. The big Mainz 05 season opening event this coming weekend will get all fans in the mood for the 2026/27 campaign. Here is all the information on Saturday’s final friendly and Sunday’s festival in the heart of the city.

Tough test against Bournemouth on Saturday

Urs Fischer’s side will play their season-opening test against AFC Bournemouth at the MEWA ARENA on Saturday, 15 August (kick-off at 15:30). The Premier League club finished sixth last season and qualified for the UEFA Europa League for the first time. Mainz 05 are also looking forward to the return of former Mainz promotion hero and coach Marco Rose, who has been in charge of the club from England’s south coast since this summer. Tickets are available in the online shop, in the fan shops and via the ticket hotline.

Standing tickets for the match cost €10 (€7 concessions), while seats cost €15 (€10 concessions). The season-opening match is not included in the price of a Bundesliga season ticket. Season-ticket holders pay the concession price.

Season opening event in the shadow of the cathedral on Sunday

After the tough test, a festival in the heart of the city will follow on Sunday, 16 August. FSV invite all Mainz residents to the official season opening event. From 13:00, Markt and Liebfrauenplatz will be transformed into a sea of red and white, with a varied supporting programme awaiting fans young and old.

During the multi-hour event, guests can look forward to a range of highlights, including the team presentations of the men’s and women’s Bundesliga sides, talks on stage and a joint autograph session afterwards.
