Comfortable friendly win in Mannheim
Mainz forwards find the net against third-division opposition

Comfortable friendly win for Mainz 05 during the international break: Urs Fischer’s side earned a deserved 3-0 victory away to third-division side SV Waldhof Mannheim. Ransford Königsdörffer and Sheraldo Becker were on target before the break, before Benedict Hollerbach added the final goal in the second half.
“Everyone did very well”
“It was important for the players who are here to stay in rhythm,” Fischer said afterwards. “For that, today’s friendly was ideal. We were committed and tried to implement the things we had discussed before the game. That worked very well in phases. You shouldn’t forget that the team was a little thrown together. Everyone did well, including the young players from the U19s, who were able to get a little taste of it today.”
Two goal lead at the break
Benedict Hollerbach had the first good chance for FSV after just eight minutes. Following Becker’s cross, the Mainz 05 forward slid in and sent the ball narrowly wide of the SVW goal (8’). Mainz 05 then had some luck when the hosts hit the post. Ransford Königsdörffer put the Rheinhessen ahead after 25 minutes. The Mainz new signing had broken through down the left wing against two Mannheim players and finished into the far corner. Three minutes later, FSV added another through Becker. The 31 year old showed his good form, just as he has in the Bundesliga, with a perfect finish from the edge of the box that landed in the top right corner (28’). That was also the half time score.
Hollerbach adds another
Mainz 05 began the second half with Phillip Tietz on for Becker and quickly added another goal. Hollerbach was perfectly placed at the far post after a cross from the left and forced the ball over the line for FSV’s third (55’). Because the hosts missed two good chances, it remained a comfortable win for FSV after 90 minutes, with four players from the club’s own U19s, Domenic Köppel, David Osei, Jeremiah Debrah and Fynn Hillbrunner, also featuring.
