Match reaction 13.02.2026 - 23:37 Uhr

“Should have put up more of a fight”

Post-match reaction from FSV following the 4-0 defeat in Dortmund

Urs Fischer, speaking at the post-match press conference: “Congratulations to Niko and his team. It was a deserved win for them, taking the full 90 minutes into account. I witnessed a solid first half from my team. In the end, the more clinical team won. It’s tough when you find yourself trailing by three goals. Defending set pieces is something that we must work on, based on this game. On the one hand, they were all delivered extremely well – it was clever from them. However, I think that we should have put up more of a fight on a couple of the goals. That’s what we will be concerning ourselves with over the upcoming days.”

Niko Bungert: “Dortmund were far more clinical than we were. Although it might not seem like it, given the result, we didn’t put in a bad performance. They posed us a lot of problems from set pieces in particular, but had barely any chances from open play. We had opportunities to score a couple of goals, but we didn’t take our chances. Unfortunately, that sometimes makes all the difference in football. Dortmund’s crosses were delivered well – all of them were into the six-yard box where there were lots of players waiting and getting in the way of the goalkeeper. That made it difficult, but we should still strive be a position where we’re able to clear away corners that come in at the right height for a header. We failed to do so on nearly every corner – that cannot be allowed to happen so often again. Things like that are what keep you from taking anything from a game, as overall, it wasn’t a bad performance.”

Silvan Widmer: “We defended poorly on set pieces. We need to be far better at standing our ground when there’s shoving, obstruction or tugging going on. That was the difference between us and Dortmund. We had two, three chances that we didn’t take, which is what leads to a result like that. At half time, we hadn’t given up hope, but we also didn’t want to get caught on the break again and concede again. We didn’t defend well, but we played well when we had the ball for much of the match. We need to put it behind us and place our full focus on the game against HSV.”

Stefan Posch: “It was an evening to forget. Conceding three set-piece goals makes it tough to end up taking anything from a game in Dortmund. We knew what we’d be up against and need to do better in defence, at keeping our opponents under control and providing the goalkeeper with more support. It’s difficult when he’s being obstructed, but the referee didn’t deem it a foul. We’re still stuck in a relegation battle. Four games ago, we had 12 points – now, we have 21. If you’d told us that back then, we all would have been on board. We need to properly analyse the game, as it wasn’t all bad tonight. We did have some good phases of play, which we need to build on. It will be a completely different game against Hamburg.”
