“It was a great show of willpower”
05ers’ reactions to the draw in Mönchengladbach

BORUSSIA MÖNCHENGLADBACH 1-1 MAINZ 05
Niko Bungert: “We were tearing our hair out over the fact that we were so dominant, but just couldn’t get the ball over the line. We lacked that final punch for a long time. It was basically constant pressure for the whole of the second half, and we were the better side even before that. The point is fully deserved. Three points would have been possible, though. All things considered, we’re happy with a point and with the fact that we kept Gladbach at bay. The team believed right until the very end – it was a great show of willpower.”
Nadiem Amiri: “We’re incredibly happy to have shown the right response after Thursday’s disappointment. I’m proud of the team – we showed our quality and our character in what was a really important game. We’re feeling good, and I’m pleased for myself after being out for eight weeks. I’m exhausted, as I was only meant to play an hour today. Training is only part of the process – to get fully fit, you need to play matches.”
Phillip Tietz: “We’d have been really angry if we’d left here empty-handed. The equaliser was fully deserved and there was even more in that game for us. We created chances, but saw them blocked or saved too many times. You saw a different Mainz team today compared to Thursday. We showed a great response.”
