"We've maintained the pressure"

All the reaction following the 05ers‘ draw in Freiburg

SCF 1-1 FSV

Martin Schmidt: "The fact that we’re 15th now doesn’t really matter. The most important thing is that we got a point. Taking the full 90 minutes into account, we deserved to draw – it’s a fair result. In the first half, we created a lot of pressure up until we scored the equaliser. It took us a while to start keeping things tight in the middle of the park again after the substitution in the second half. Freiburg played well for 15, 20 minutes and looked threatening on the break and from a couple of set-pieces. The game was more even after that and we controlled the flow of the match, even with the threat they posed on the counter. Obviously, we could’ve come away with more than a point, but when you consider the game as a whole, it would be amiss to say that we should’ve won. Still, it feels good. We’ve maintained the pressure on the teams around us. The next game against Köln on Sunday is crucial, a real six-pointer."

Phillipp Mwene: "I’m not 100% happy. We had big plans and wanted to win. We conceded an early goal but, just like against Hoffenheim, we didn’t let it get to us and we played really well in the first half. We had a lot of possession, but Freiburg didn’t give us many chances. Jonny was a matter of millimetres away from his marker when he scored. It was a real battle for every inch today. The draw is a good result for both sides. It’s almost the end of the season and we want to get far away from the relegation zone as soon as possible. It’s a relief to be 15th now. Nothing’s set in stone, though, and we’ve got another hugely important game next Sunday. We need to keep ploughing ahead and give it our all again."

Robin Zentner: "After the first half, we felt like we were going to win. I think that we played well in the second half, too, but we didn’t have too many clear-cut chances. We also let Freiburg get closer and closer to getting another goal. They’re a quality side. On the whole, though, we deserved a point - we’d have been fortunate to get all three. We’ll take every point that we get. It means nothing that we’re 15th now – there’s a long way to go yet and we need to get some more points on the board. The ones we have now aren’t going to be enough. We’ve needed a lot of endurance this season. We’ve fought back well and we deserve to be in the position we’re in now. We hope to be where we are now at least come the end of the season."
