Ujah joins Union Berlin

Attacker signs three-year deal – Schröder: We’ll miss Toni

Toni Ujah scored both goals in the 2-0 victory over Frankfurt on Matchday 33.

Anthony Ujah is leaving 1. FSV Mainz 05 and will join newly-promoted Union Berlin, where the 28-year-old attacker has signed a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Ujah joined Mainz in January 2018 from Chinese side FC Liaoning and went on the make 33 appearances for the club and scored four goals, including a recent double in the derby against Frankfurt in May 2019.

Sporting director Rouven Schröder commented on the transfer, “Toni came to us with a clear desire to move clubs in order to see more first-team football. The decision to grant his wish is on one hand justified due to our competition in the attacking department. On the other hand, it is taken with a heavy heart because we are very aware of Toni’s quality. Additionally, he was an important part of our team both on and off the pitch – a great and positive guy who will be missed. We wish him all the best for the future, both in a footballing and personal sense.”
