Another home-grown talent from the Mainz youth academy receives a professional contract

The obligatory post-signing handshake: Niklas Tauer and Sporting Director Rouven Schröder

1. FSV Mainz have secured yet another talent for the long the term: midfielder Niklas Tauer has signed a professional contract, keeping him with the Zerofivers until 2023. The 18-year-old, who currently plays in Mainz’s U19s team and has already made a couple of appearances for the first team over the summer, has been moving up the youth academy ranks here since 2012. Trauer earned a call up to Germany’s U19s squad in August having already made six appearances for the U18s.

“Niklas Tauer is another fantastic player to come out of our youth system and he has shown real potential in pre-season and in training. He has also proved he deserves a professional contract in his appearances for Germany’s youth teams and in the U19s Bundesliga. We now want to patiently work through the next steps of his development together,” said Schröder.

“I am delighted that another one of our youth players has been trusted to make the step up to professional football with Mainz. Niklas is a local boy and has been with us for seven years already – he’s one of our own. We will continue to train youth players and prepare them for first team action,” said Volker Kersting, Head of the Youth Academy.
