Schwarz: "Freiburg pounced clinically"
All the reaction from the two coaches.
Sandro Schwarz: "That was a strange game. We had lots of positives and phases in our game, we could have taken the lead. Freiburg were always dangerous from set pieces and from distance. However, we had control of the game for long spells and started very well after the break. We weren’t able to dictate the play and typically they scored in the 81st minute while we had three players down. We had to make some changes and were a little bit all over the place for a moment. Freiburg pounced on that clinically and with great quality. The three goals in the last ten minutes are extremely frustrating, as is the way we lost this game today. Now our job is to analyse the game properly and not let the result dictate our mood moving forward. We need to work on that as a group and stay focused. Naturally, we need to focus especially on the final ten minutes, so that we are fully equipped next weekend at home to Gladbach. Congratulations to Freiburg for the win."
Christian Streich: "The result doesn't reflect the game. But I remember a game a few months ago when we lost 5-0 in Mainz with 70% possession. It was an extremely difficult game for us today. It was tough to prepare for too because Mainz played very well in Kaiserslautern, despite the result. Mainz’s diamond is always a challenge. Both teams could have taken the lead. It’s great that we could decide the game in the end through individual quality, despite what was a difficult second half. We showed we can win games like this. I’m very happy."
