Opel Cup 2019 with top-quality international lineup

Everton and Sevilla will take part in the second edition of the Opel Cup on 27th July in the Opel Arena

The Opel Cup made its debut in 2018.

Mainz fans can look forward to a high-quality start to the season with the second edition of the Opel Cup. On Saturday 27th July, Mainz will take part in a high-level friendly against two top-quality international opponents. This year, Premier League side Everton FC as well as the five-time Europa League champions Sevilla FC from Spain’s La Liga will come visit the Opel Arena.

The Opel Cup will be set up so that 'everyone faces everyone.' Each team will play each other, with each match having two 30 minute halves. The first match will kick off in the Opel Arena at 13:00 CEST, followed by the second at 14:30 CEST and the third match at 16:00 CEST.

A real highlight for the fans

“It’s terrific that, together with Opel, we will be able to give our fans an exciting day of football before the start of the season. After Liverpool FC, AC Fiorentina and Athletic Bilbao, we will once again have top-quality opponents coming to the Opel Arena. The Opel Cup 2019 is therefore not just a good test for our team, but will also be a real highlight for our fans,” said Mainz chairman Stefan Hofmann.

“We’re very exciting about the development of the club. After 11 years in the Bundesliga, Mainz are basically amongst other well-established clubs in the top-flight. It’s a great thing for us that, after hosting a friendly against Jürgen Klopp and his Liverpool side in August 2016, and the debut of the Opel Cup last summer, that we are able to welcome more international guests to the Opel Arena for the third time as co-hosts,” said Opel CEO Michael Lohschneller.
