Onisiwo extends contract
The Austrian attacker signs until 2022
Karim Onisiwo has extended his contract with 1.FSV Mainz 05 by two years until 2022, having originally signed until 2020. Sporting director Rouven Schröder and the 27-year-old attacker finalized the details of the contract on Wednesday during the Zerofiver’s training camp in Grassau. The Austrian international joined Mainz in January 2016, and has since made 59 Bundesliga appearances, scoring nine goals, seven of which came in the past season.
“Karim Onisiwo has undergone a long and steady development with us and really came into his own during the second half of last season,” said Rouven Schröder. “He emphatically demonstrated his potential, his physicality, his instincts in front of goal and his importance within the team. Karim’s development is not finished yet, which is why we are very happy to have him with us for the upcoming season.”
“I have grown as a person and as a player over the last three and a half years here in Mainz,” said Karim Onisiwo. “Even during times where I had to overcome setbacks I could always feel the complete support of my teammates and the coaches, which helped me a lot. This past season I was able to show on the pitch what I can do. By extending my contract I feel the club is showing it holds me in high esteem. I feel at home in Mainz and am looking forward to the next three years.”
