Lots of international action for Zerofivers
More exciting games involving Zerofivers on Monday evening.
Despite goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ahmet Gürleyen on Thursday, there were no further international goals scored by Mainz players over the weekend. There were mixed levels of success but plenty of playing time for the Zerofivers on international duty over the weekend.
Kunde Malong played for Cameroon against Morocco in African Cup of Nations qualification. Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech scored a brace for the home side as Kunde was substituted in the 81st minute. Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Ivory Coast manage to avoid defeat against Guinea, drawing 1-1 on Sunday.
Luxembourg and Leandro Barreiro also drew 1-1 on Sunday evening in Moldova. ‘Leo’ played the full 90 minutes in the Nations League game. Alexandru Maxim also managed 90 minutes for Romania as they managed a comfortable 3-0 win against Lithuania on Saturday. Robin Quaison was an unused substitute in Sweden’s 1-0 win in Turkey.
Levin Öztunali played the full 90 minutes in Germany U21s 3-0 win over The Netherlands on Friday night. Jonathan Burkardt and Germany U19s were defeated by Holland 1-0, with the youngster coming on in the 87th minute. There is another opportunity for him to shine on the international level today as Germany U19s take on Armenia.
There are more exciting games this evening as Jean-Philippe Mateta and Moussa Niakhaté will face Aarón Martín as France U21s take on Spain U21s. Levin Öztunali and Germany U21s will face Italy while Ahmet Gürleyen and Finn Dahmen will come up against England. Kunde Malong, Alex Maxim and Robin Quaison could all be in action tomorrow before the attention then turns back to the Bundesliga.
