Kohr signs four-year contract

The midfielder has agreed a deal to stay with the club until 2026. “This club is close to my heart and I want to continue to wear the Mainz jersey.”

Dominik Kohr will remain a Zerofiver until 2026. The central midfielder, who has been on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt since January 2021, is signing permanently with FSV. The two clubs have agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.

The 28-year-old has been an important part of Bo Svensson’s team since he arrived at the club. He was not only a key player in last season’s sensational survival bid, but he has also been a big part of Mainz’s success this campaign. He has so far made 39 appearances for club (1 goal, 5 assists) and brings an impressive mix of domestic and international experience to the table. Kohr, who was born in Trier, started his professional career at Bayer Leverkusen and has since played for FC Augsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt. He has played 196 times in the Bundesliga and in the DFB-Pokal and has made an impressive 22 appearances in European competition.

Svensson: “Dominik is a proper Mainz player. He encapsulates everything that we’re about.”

“Right from day one, Dominik Kohr has contributed to the team, on both a personal and on a sporting level. He is an experienced team player who gives it everything on the pitch. He has found his sporting home here at Mainz. He is strong in the duels and good on the ball and is a real leader both on the pitch and in the dressing room,” said sporting director Martin Schmidt.

Bo Svensson was also full of praise for the 28-year-old: “Everyone has seen the difference he has made to the team in his 18 months at the club. He was just what we needed back in the winter of 2021 and he will continue to play an important role in the future. Dominik is a proper Mainz player. He encapsulates everything that we’re about. I am delighted that we have extended his contract and that he will remain with us.”
