Gbamin extends contract until 2023

Jean-Philippe Gbamin has extended his contract with 1. FSV Mainz 05 by a year. He is now set to stay at the club till 2023. The Ivory Coast international has been at the Bruchweg since 2016. He’s played 63 games for FSV and scored one goal. The midfielder is considered a key squad member. This season the 22-year-old was elected the to team committee by his fellow teammates.
“With the contract extension we wanted to make a statement. Jean-Philippe Gbamin wanted to make it clear that he sees his future at Mainz. It’s nice to see that he wants to continue his development here. He will continue to be a real asset. He’s a really important player for us, both on the pitch with his physicality and great footballing potential, but also off the field with his positive attitude. We are really happy about the contract extension,” commented Mainz’s sporting director Rouven Schröder.
“This is the third contract that I’ve signed with Mainz. I’m really happy at the faith that Rouven, the coach and the club has shown in me. In the upcoming season, I want to continue to progress both personally and within the team. This will be my third Bundesliga season. As a member of the team committee and I want to fulfil my leadership responsibilities both on and off the field.
