Angelo Fulgini joins Mainz 05!
French attacking midfielder joins from Angers SCO on deal until 2026
1. FSV Mainz 05 have added an attacking midfielder to their ranks through Frenchman Angelo Fulgini. The 25-year-old arrives from Ligue 1 club Angers SCO and has signed a contract until 2026. In 160 competitive games for Angers, Fulgini found the net 24 times and notched a further 17 assists. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose any further details of the transfer.
“Angelo Fulgini has had a top footballing education in France, coming through all the youth national teams and developing into a complete player in Ligue 1, where he is known for his set-pieces and his ability to make the difference on the pitch. Angelo is in his prime, and is a type of player who we have been missing in our squad,” said Martin Schmidt, sporting director of 1. FSV Mainz 05.
Head coach Bo Svensson added: “Angelo was very eager to join us, which was very important. His technical quality will definitely strengthen our attacking midfield. He’s a number 10, maybe not a traditional one, but he works hard for his team. Angelo’s also a top guy, who will fit Mainz 05 and the club’s style of play fantastically.”
Mainz 05's new number 10:
“I really wanted to play in the Bundesliga and there were a few clubs who were interested in me, but Mainz 05 is the right club for me. I had a lot of good discussions with Bo Svensson, but also Moussa Niakhaté, who is a close friend of mine and said some wonderful things about the club which convinced me to come. I’m looking forward to the Bundesliga now, and especially the Mainz fans,” said Angelo Fulgini.
